Research in numerical methods, scientific computing, and engineering design.

Graduate research

Our research combines the development of computational methods with their implementation and evaluation on engineering problems. Projects often involve numerical optimization, differentiable modeling, multiphysics simulation, or scientific machine learning.

Prospective students can explore the methods, application studies, and software to identify connections with their interests. Applications to graduate study are submitted through the UC San Diego Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

Preparation

Useful preparation includes numerical methods, linear algebra, optimization, and experience developing scientific software. The lab’s work is collaborative: modeling decisions and numerical methods are considered together with the engineering questions they support.
